Heartburn is Done
Today while I was looking for my ladypills, I stumbled across something I haven’t seen in a long time— a bottle of acid reducers, generic “maximum strength” Zantac to be specific. The bottle is tiny, only meant to hold 50 pills, but this little bottle had a huge effect on me today! I used to use acid reducers almost every single day, whether it was the Zantac pills or a few Tums. This particular bottle only has five pills left in it, which means I used 45 before I (most likely) lost the bottle. The expiration date is 07/09, but I haven’t been off them for that long, though I can’t exactly pinpoint when I completely stopped using acid reducers altogether. I was still using them toward the beginning of this year, though. This makes me sooooo happy because I honestly can’t remember the last time I needed these things. Like I said, I used to use them on a daily basis, not because I wanted to, but because I got heartburn so bad I wanted to cry. It made me obnoxiously nauseous and irritated and if I didn’t have some form of relief around constantly, I don’t know what I would have done. Those commercials with the “hurt now or hurt later” options are dirty liars, because it hurt now, later, and all the fucking time.
I have no idea what exactly stopped the heartburn and when it stopped, but I’m guessing it has to do with my lack of soda pop consumption, since carbonated beverages can be a heartburn trigger and I still consume almost everything else on that list with no problem at all. I gave up soda and potato chips for Lent, and even after that ended I never really have any desire for either of those things anymore. So I’m guessing that plays a role, at the very least.
And with that, this bottle and its five remaining pills are going in the trash.
